Objective

The P97 Petrozone app was already in service to a large portion of the fuel industry. However, with the electric vehicle industry on the rise, it was time to integrate EV charging into our platform.

During this initiative, I operated as the sole product designer, conceptualizing, researching and producing the final prototypes.

Problems
  • The Petrozone app currently has no support for EV transactions.

  • EV charging services are new and lacking consistent standardization.

Solution

Integrate EV charging into the Petrozone app, including a full EV charging prototype and system wide updates to support.

Passing the Time

During a charging session, a user couldn’t be expected to leave their phone on the charging screen, so I designed functionality to minimize the charging screen while still tracking progress.

Delivery

Charging Up

At the end of the production cycle I was able to produce a prototype displaying the functionality of our new EV integration.

Impact

Broadened Our Audience
The Petrozone app would now provide convenience for EV users and could consolidate multi-car families to using a singular app service for all vehicles.
Wow'd the Crowd
Prototype demonstrated our EV functionality plans at the 2022 NACS trade show to a very positive response, generating industry interest.

Closing Thoughts

This project allowed me to push my skills across multiple areas of the design process, from research and requirements gathering to prototyping and visual design.

In addition I learned a lot about an industry that I had no prior knowledge in, and appreciated the challenge that came with it. There were many questions around EV practices that I could not answer on my own, but thankfully I was able to reach out to those with more industry expertise to fill in the blanks.
